Overview

Durham and Morrisville, N.C.

The Research Triangle Park area is comprised of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, plus several other communities (Cary, Morrisville, Carrboro and others). The Triangle is a leader in knowledge-based industries and home to major employers in technology, health care, education and agribusiness. The area provides a wide range of employment opportunities and two of its cities, Raleigh and Durham, ranked high on Forbes' 2009 Best Places for Business and Careers list. Raleigh grabbed the top spot for a third straight year, while Durham was ranked third.

Money magazine consistently ranks the Triangle as one of America's top places to live. The area has three major universities (the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University and North Carolina State University) and a total of 50 colleges within a 25-mile radius.

Spectator sports are a major appeal of the Triangle, with the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes and perhaps the best college basketball in the nation. The cultural scene includes renowned art, science and history museums; arts and crafts fairs; classical music; dance; and a rich local music tradition. Major acts visit the area's many venues throughout the year.
