Middleton and Madison, Wis.

The greater Madison area is a progressive, cosmopolitan city of more than 220,000 people. Located on the western edge of Madison, Middleton (population approximately 17,000) features the amenities and activity of much larger cities while maintaining a small town charm and quality of life.

Middleton was ranked No. 1 on Money magazine's "Best Places to Live in America" list in August 2007. Home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) and University Research Park, Madison is an eclectic mix of cultural offerings, restaurants and shops, green landscapes and artistic communities.

The Madison area has experienced steady economic growth, with a strong base of biotech, pharmaceutical, medical research and agribusinesses.

Attractions in the Madison area include the Henry Vilas Zoo and the Children's Museum; the Olbrich Botanical Gardens and the University of Wisconsin Arboretum; and the Chazen Museum of Art and the Wisconsin Historical Museum. The city's arts scene includes the Madison Opera's Opera in the Park as well as the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. The Overture Center for the Arts is home to the Madison Repertory Theatre and the Madison Ballet.

The UW-Madison sports teams, nicknamed the Badgers, play in venues in and around Madison. A number of notable endurance sports racing events are held in Madison, such as the Crazylegs Classic, the Mad City Marathon and Ironman Wisconsin.
